The complexity and slow pace of getting a grid connection and the associated permits are the #1 bottleneck to the rapid and widespread rollout of charging infrastructure across Europe. ChargeUp Europe has been at the forefront of this issue, which is now high on the EU political agenda.

RED III requires Member States to set up a marketplace where charge point operators (CPOs), who provide electricity to EVs through their charging activities, generate and sell credits to other business actors (such as fuel suppliers). This creates an added revenue stream for charge point operators, which they can reinvest in the rollout of charging infrastructure.

Payments are a central part of the EV charging experience, for public as well as private charging. Today’s EV drivers are fortunate to have a number of ways to authenticate themselves and pay, from MSP accounts to one-time methods. ChargeUp Europe is working to ensure that whichever method the EV driver chooses, it is smooth, seamless, and secure.
